DocBook is an existing XML data model for technical documentation. DocBook is intended for the authoring of books and articles. It can handle narrative content well. |
It was originally intended for writing technical documents related to computer hardware and software but it can be used for any other sort of documentation. It provides a rich set of tags to describe the content of your document.
DocBook enables you to create document content in a presentation-neutral form that captures the logical structure of the content; that content can then be published in a variety of formats, including HTML, XHTML, EPUB, PDF, and HTML Help, without requiring users to make any changes to the source. It also automatically builds indexes, tables of contents, and links within the document or external to it.
The OASIS consortium is now in charge of maintaining this standard through the DocBook Technical Committee.
