As markets become increasingly global, more organizations are making the decision to ship their products with local-language user documentation. Competitive pressures mean that a long "translation lag" between the original documentation and local-language versions is no longer acceptable; products that continue to evolve while translation is in progress mean that translation has to be carefully managed to ensure compatibility between the product and its documentation. Translation must therefore be accomplished quickly and efficiently to ensure that documentation is appropriate for intended users, and cost-effective for your organization.
Combining flexible translation management functionality with integrated support for workflow, collaboration, and remote contribution, SiberSafe enables technical documentation teams to cost-effectively deliver the same product documentation in many languages.
SiberSafe offers two approaches to managing translation:
- The documentation manager can incorporate either internal or external translation suppliers into the in-house documentation development process. Like other extended team members, remote translators are integrated via workflow and directed via configurable access control to specified content.
- The documentation manager can automatically compile and extract a package of content for translation, and distribute it via email or FTP for processing. Returned local-language content can then be integrated directly into the SiberSafe repository.
It is also possible to combine these approaches – for example, different language versions of a documentation set may be sourced from separate suppliers for whom one approach or the other is more appropriate.
The SiberSafe concept of translation streams and supporting tools makes sure you can get an early start on local-language documentation projects. Translation streams allow modification of your content, but not its structure, so you can confidently start translation activity well before the source language documentation is finalized.
As the source language documentation changes to reflect product modifications while translation is in progress, it can be merged with the translation stream to ensure that the translated documentation is based on the appropriate version of the source language content. SiberSafe keeps track of what has already been translated, so ongoing translation effort can be focused only on content that has changed. No material is translated more than once, and return on investment is maximized.
