SiberLogic adds semantic knowledge modeling to SiberSafe CMS

RDF/OWL-based platform dramatically accelerates knowledge transfer within the content management lifecycle

XML 2005 Conference & Expo, Atlanta, GA - November 14, 2005 - SiberLogic, an established provider of innovative XML content technology, and Gold Sponsor of XML 2005, today announces the addition of semantic knowledge modeling to its flagship content management solution, SiberSafe.

Semantic knowledge modeling is the development of a set of facts and the relationships between them that captures and formalizes all essential technical knowledge about a product. The methodical population of a formal knowledge model efficiently ensures accuracy and completeness in content development, and its semantic enablement allows that content to be retrieved and absorbed in new and flexible ways.

Knowledge modeling for technical documentation
Subject matter experts such as product designers and engineers must make their knowledge available to consumers as diverse as machine operators, support specialists, training teams, and maintenance personnel. The intermediaries in the process of capturing and packaging SME knowledge for delivery are the technical writers, who collaborate with both experts and end users until the designated techdocs or other information products are complete.

SiberSafe's innovative RDF/OWL-based knowledge modeling technology dramatically increases the efficiency of this knowledge flow from expert to intermediary to consumer.

SiberSafe Visual Modeler ensures accuracy
Using SiberSafe Visual Modeler, the subject matter expert directly contributes facts and their relationships into the semantic knowledge model, via a user interface that can be optimized for each organization's specific knowledge requirements. Information can be incrementally added as it becomes available during product development, and the semantic model imposes accuracy and completeness on all authored material - especially important for safety-critical applications, such as aircraft maintenance or medical equipment.

SiberSafe auto-drafting shortens project timescales
Once the model is complete the authoring process can be greatly expedited by the automatic generation of draft topics, which need only to be customized by the technical writing team rather than written from scratch. The unambiguous presentation of all facts and relationships minimizes the iterations required between subject matter expert and author/s, and saves time in both content creation and QA.

SiberSafe assumptions management keeps content current
SiberSafe is the only CMS solution that makes it easy to maintain the accuracy of content as changes are made by the engineering team to the product being documented. Once the semantic model is developed and draft topics have been generated and customized, SiberSafe establishes associations between each topic and relevant parts of the semantic model. If the model changes, SiberSafe will automatically notify relevant topic owners, who can then elect to manually update the customized topic or regenerate a completely new topic draft based on the updated facts in the model.

SiberSafe Knowledge Base makes content navigation easy
Publication to SiberSafe's innovative semantically-enabled Knowledge Base offers unparalleled access to online or CD-ROM based content via semantics-driven navigation mechanisms such as:
  • Semantics Browser (browse by structural view, functional view, etc.)
  • Semantic Search Queries (by drilling down on components, SNS codes, etc.)
  • Full text metadata-driven proximity-sensitive keyword search queries
  • Interactive Expert System powered by the semantics-based inference engine

Robust, feature-rich CMS
SiberSafe is the only product on the market today that combines semantic knowledge modeling with a robust, feature-rich XML-based CMS. With full support for DITA and S1000D, SiberSafe streamlines fundamental processes such as version and workflow control, collaborative authoring and review, translation management, and more, and ensures that techdocs can be output to a variety of different formats, including IETP/IETM, SCORM, PDF, HTML, and PowerPoint, for delivery on paper, CD-ROM, or online.

SiberLogic's modeling technology is built on the open W3C Semantic Web standards RDF and OWL, so organizations are not locked into a proprietary solution once a significant volume of knowledge has been captured.
