Welcome to our first edition

Welcome to ‘Cutting Concepts’, a serialized publication intended to explore, analyze, and inform you about the breakthroghs being made at SiberLogic and their impact upon the technical communications industry. Our aim is to provide you with regular updates on the innovative products you need and use.

DITA webinar: “Sense out of Confusion”

SiberLogic is collaborating with Adobe, creator and maintainer of the PDF standard and FrameMaker editing software to deliver an informational webcast aimed at technical writers who have recently or are planning to shift to structured XML for their documentation.

The hour-long seminar will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time and can be accessed through the Adobe website.

It will cover such topics as:

·    Topic Authoring: Easily create DITA-compliant topics from templates and editing topics, including adding graphics to existing documents.

·    Project Management: Using SiberSafe integration to FrameMaker to quickly locate the correct information, set up workflows, easily manage links, coordinate web-based reviews, and rollback to previous versions.

·    Publishing: Quickly combine topics into documents for publishing into HTML, PDF, or other formats.

SiberSafe S1000D supports image hotspots in v4

The SiberSafe development team today announced greatly

expanded support for image hotspot capabilities in S1000D edition, version 4. Technical communicators can now directly interact with the hotspots present in an image in order to add, manipulate, or maintain them.

A hotspot is a graphical object that participates in a link. This allow different portions of an image in a publication to be linked directly to contextually relevant information, other images, or even rich media. SiberSafe version 4 introduces two key features to improve the usability and accessibility of this technology:

·    Automated hotspot table generation; and

·    Hotspot-enabled CGM preview

Hotspot tables index a list of all hotspots within the document, removing the need for the technical communicator to sift throough pages of code in order

to find and edit the references they need.

Hotspot-enabled previews mean that a document can be previewed with all image hotspots enabled and functional; this allows the user to see the connections within a document via hotspot links, as well as what they reference, and therefore evaluate what changes need to be made.

These changes together make SiberSafe a still more powerful tool for use in S1000D-based publications and a valauble asset for teams that need to create, edit, and maintain rich, complex, evolving content.

New videos from SiberLogic demonstrate SiberSafe’s expanded functionality

SiberLogic has released a new series of videos, which are intended to display the functionality of its proprietary SiberSafe software. These demonstrations cover such vital topics as the content mapping functionality, a powerful tool for the automated conversion of legacy content into structured data; the interated support for S1000D-structured documentation in SiberSafe; and the usability of SiberSafe with Microsoft Word in order to streamline and simplify the creation of structured documentation.

SiberLogic provides Automatic Validation of Business Rules in SiberSafe S1000D

SiberLogic, a worldwide leader in XML content management technologies, today announced the availability of automatic business rule validation functionality in SiberSafe S1000D CSDB. The move gives the company’s S1000D customers an automated way to ensure data modules are conformant to intended business rules.

S1000D business rules are decisions that are made by a project or an organization on how to implement the specification. S1000D recognizes that a number of decisions related to its implementation are made not only on a project level but often also on an organizational level. The structure and content of business rules between projects and various organizations can differ considerably. In an S1000D project, the BREX data module contains the business rules applicable to a project.

The SiberSafe BREX Validation Report:

·    Shows any discrepancies/disagreement with the rules by data module

·    Identifies and presents guidance on the authoring of the specific elements, and attributes

This functionality also allows organizations to produce a BREX validation report for all data modules in a publication module.
