Change History

SiberSafe maintains the complete history of every change made to any S1000D data module or one of its illustrations or other supplimentary resources. Additionally, the history is also maintained at the project level, so that at any given point in time the whole project can be restored in the same state as of any previous point in time, including its both configuration and content.

SNS Management

SiberSafe automatically organizes your data modules and illustrations around your SNS and allows you to easily modify your SNS by adding new projects, systems, sub-systems, sub-sub-systems and units. You can edit your SNS both online in the SNS browser and off-line, as an XML file in our integrated authoring environment.

Unlike other systems, SiberSafe allows you to modify SNS codes any time you like without invalidating any of your data module codes (DMCs), data module references or illustration refereces. All such references and codes are automatically and instantly updated as you modify your SNS codes. When you export your data out of SiberSafe in the file format, the file names will be automatically adjusted to reflect the current SNS codes in the DMC part of the data module file names.

You can import any group of data modules into SiberSafe and have SiberSafe automatically infer and instantiate the structure of your SNS from the DMCs of your data modules so that you do not have to define it by hand or import it explicitly from another system.

Publication Module Management

SiberSafe is able to automatically generate your Publication Modules to reflect the structure of your SNS, which is often desirable for IETM publishing. In other words, you do not need to author your IETM publication modules and instead let SiberSafe do it for you.

Task Analysis

When it comes to printed, paper-oriented publications, it is often desirable to structure publication modules around the task analysis hierarchy so that different manual types can be published for different IETM users, such as operators and maintainers. SiberSafe allows its users to map S1000D data modules onto user-defined Task Analysis hierarchy and then automatically aggregate task-oriented publication modules that can be published both into PDF and IETM formats.

Content Maps

Content Maps is a technique that SiberSafe supports to helps create the S1000D project outline using spreadsheet-oriented tools, such as Microsoft Excel. A content map created in Microsoft Excel would typically map data modules onto the SNS, legacy content fragments onto data modules, data modules onto information codes and data modules onto task codes. Upon importation of such a content map, SiberSafe would instantiate all the data module placeholders and assign them to the information codes, SNS items and task codes as per the content map data.

Reference Management

Reference management helps S1000D authors keep track of and protect various references in the S1000D content, including references from data modules to other data modules, data modules to their illustrations or data modules to IPD catalog entries.

SiberSafe ensures the validity of such references at all times and prevents the users from removing targets of references that already exist. In SiberSafe, unlike other CSDB systems, modification of SNS codes doesn't result into invalidaton of references; instead, any affected references are automatically and instantly updated.You can freely modify any DMC components, such as the disassembly code, and expect SiberSafe to maintain the integrity of any references that target the data module with the modified DMC.

Uniqueness of CSN (IPD catalog entry) and CSN/ISN references is also ensured by SiberSafe. The validity of CSN-based references is guaranteed and maintained in a manner similar to that of data module references, so that reference targets can not be removed as long as they are referenced somewhere.

SiberSafe also clearly indicates for every data module or illustration what other data or publication modules it is references from. The same indication is provided for CSN or CSN/ISN IPD catalog entries: SiberSafe lists all the data modules that a CSN/ISN entry is referenced from.

Content Reuse for Warnings, Cautions and other content elements

When the same warnings, cautions and other similar S1000D content elements need to be reused in many different places, SiberSafe offers its cluster-based content reuse mechanism that allows the user to include the same content element into multiple different places by reference. If a modification is applied to such reused content element, say a warning, SiberSafe will automatically propagate it to all those data modules where the warning is included by reference.

SDC-based Variant Management

Multiple variations of the same hardware can be documented in SiberSafe incrementally using its built-in support for the System Difference Code (SDC). Different variations can be sub-ordinated using inheritance rules so that if variant A is sub-ordinated to variant B, if a data module is part of the base variant A, it is considered included into variant B. The user can choose to navigate or publish any particular SDC-based variant, taking into account their sub-ordination.
